Didja ever get that one Crackerjack box in a hundred that didn't have a toy prize inside? Stick through both parts of The Coven and we'll swap stories. Part Two pays off not one iota on its promising (if muddled) predecessor. If anything it patronizes the audience with a lengthy recap and then pads out the sex scenes with redundant inanities such as car rides and beach walks. The prodigious supporting cast are all but wasted.
For those of you who've walked in on the middle of this picture, The Coven is ostensibly "about" an ancient witch (Janine) who appears in the present to snag Kristi Lynn with some sort of sexual/magical power. The game plan in Part Two is to transport Kristi back to join the coven, and unleash her own supernatural sensuality. Now this is strictly interpretive, since no one has bothered to form this plot into a coherent script. What the viewer gets is meaningless mystical mumbo-jumbo, interminably droned by narrator Janine.
As a (nearly) all-sex feature, The Coven falls remarkably short of inspired. Though the cinematography is oft-times breath-taking – more bonfire dancing and mellow meadows – only two scenes stand out. The first is a heathen bang between Paul Morgan and Laurie Cameron, which builds quite well but results in a tame anal ending lacking both initial penetration shot and cum shots. Later, Kristi's vigorous ritual initiation by Marc Davis is effectively intercut as a night interior and day exterior; she continues to suck on his pagan pecker long after it's greased her ass. Market with other Janine titles for maximum exposure; the boxcovers are superb. Additional cast: Alex Sanders, Brittany O'Connell, Nikki Shane, Nick East, Steven St. Croix, Tianna Taylor, Max Steiner.
