Arguably the best bad movie ever made, Showgirls: V.I.P Edition is a revelation for those who have only seen the extremely sanitized version that pops up on TNT seemingly ever other week.
Viewing the uncut disc, one realizes how television censors have cut out the sexual heart and soul of the movie. Showgirls: V.I.P. Edition is quite raunchy in an NC-17 kind of way, with several very steamy scenes, including a private lap dance sequence featuring the film's star, babealicious Elizabeth Berkley, that, if any harder, would qualify as porn.
In between all the bumping and grinding, of course, the tale of the rise and take-this-job-and-shove-it of Vegas showgirl Nomi (Berkley) remains the unintentionally hilarious hoot-fest that it's always been, complete with the world's worst choreography, Kyle MacLachlan's classically bad hair and Gina Gershon's performance for the ages as Nomi's tormentor, bitch queen Cristal. Tacky, tasteless Camp with a capital "C."
Retailing: Alternative gold.
