Continuing the creatively exuberant new franchise started by last year's Best Vignette Release winner Tales From the Crack, this sophomore Buttman Comics Presents? effort is one of the funniest, most inventive and most visually arresting productions of the year.

Taryn Thomas, for whom this is a major breakout vehicle, stars as Laura, a sweet schoolgirl with an impish affection for dirty comic books (Buttman Comics, to be precise) who gets bullied by head cheerleader Sammie Rhodes for crushing on her man, Mark (Scott Nails). Thing is, Mark digs comics, too, and upon discovering this mutual interest, the two sneak off to savor several of the bawdy tales together, which naturally spring to life for the viewer to savor along with them.

The comic book-style split-screen editing throughout the work is remarkable, often used to give you dead perfect multiple angles on the action at one time. And said action is hot as hell, ranging from a ribald group scene between Kaylynn, Naudia Nyce, Tommy Gunn, Mr. Pete and Johnny Cobalt in – well, hell, to an all-girl orgy amongst Rhodes and her band of cheerleaders in the shower room, to this reviewer's favorite, the climactic schoolroom finale in which Thomas and Nails consummate their newfound puppy love.

The DVD set comes with three discs, one of which contains the high-def version of the title, and the other sporting a slew of featurettes and other behind-the-scenes goodies. The most fun of these is the casting reel, in which you get to watch porn chicks attempt various line readings. That's some high entertainment, folks.

Vault of Whores makes Taryn Thomas a star and reminds you how fun porn can be when it wants to. A joy for comic geeks and smut freaks alike.
