There's no way to predict when, but every so often the sci-fi/fantasy community reaches into its bag of tricks and pulls out the venerable Queen of the Amazon plot contrivance or its reasonable facsimile. This is the one in which a group of manly men are found isolated and placed in peril at the hands of a culture of slinky, but totally-out-of-touch, big breasted women. A little like the day-to-day affairs of the XXX business, one might say.

Some modern nuances, a few contemporary gags, a little bit of Jules Verne's Mysterious Island, some tits and ass, and a cashing-in on Jurassic Park are what make Dinosaur Island an entertainingly hip little film with surprisingly good f/x made to look like cheesy inventions of 10 year-old wannabe film makers.

Grizzled B-movie vet Ross Hagen is the leader of a military unit assigned to bring back a trio of misfit A.W.O.L.'s. Plane troubles force a landing on an uncharted island inhabited by skinny-dipping Amazons, none of whom possesses anything less than a C-cup or anything more than a pea brain. One of the troops, Richard Gabai (a good, physical comedian who was a hoot as a priest-imposter in the T&A'er Hot Under The Collar) wears a happy face tattoo and is immediately taken for some warrior-god forecast in an island sacred scroll. Gabai and company are recruited to help save the island women from the "great one".

'Jackie Gleason?" one of the soldiers asks. Not quite. The dinosaur monsters are more Toys R Us-issue. But from that Gleason crack you can draw some fairly safe conclusions about where this film's sensibilities lie. Played strictly for guffaws with a very stoic face, there's also some fabulous-looking ladies in this ensemble to gawk at, and predictably, love lies lurking somewhere beneath the loin cloth.

Also stars Antonia Dorian, Michelle Bauer, Becky LeBeau (topless cameo), Peter Spellos, Tom Shell, and Toni Naples.
