We've seen a lot of versions of Flesh Gordon fromvarious video companies through the years, but this DVD is the most complete yet. It even has a cliffhanger "ending" and an intermission in the middle! The story is a parody of the Flash Gordon serials from the '30s and '40s, with characters like "Dale Ardor" and "Dr. Flexi Jerkoff" trying to defeat "Emperor Wang" and his army of creatures brought to life by some of the best stop-motion animators in the business today, including Greg Jein. In the old days, we'd have termed the sexual action "XX," but for the new millennium, let's just call it "NC-17" or even "R."

The transfer itself is excellent, with almost no pixelation even in darker sections of the image. However, the transfer is made from a poorly cleaned filmstrip, so that brings the quality rating down a bit. But for retailers who've heard about this tape for years and have never stocked it, or for those who've only stocked the cut video version(s), this is an item that no video store should be without.
