When you're hot, you're hot, and Brad Armstrong just can't miss lately.
Randy Spears is an L.A. cop, trying to impregnate gal pal-maybe-wife Alexa by fucking her on schedule and keeping the streets safe with partner Temptress. On one of those bogus calls that happen all too often in this kind of story, Spears is set up and killed to the anguish of Temptress. Her lack of acting experience works against her in the death scene, but when Spears shows up again a year later she freaks out very convincingly. Seems Spears checked out prematurely, and got a second chance to clean up unfinished business - including an internal affairs investigation that would have severely impacted rogue cop Alec Metro, who "accidentally" dropped the hammer on Spears and is now sharing digs with the not-all-that-bereaved Alexa. Temptress picks up where Spears left off, digging into the internal affairs business and getting buddy-buddy with new partner Jason McCain. The plot thickens when Temptress brings her new findings to topkick George Kaplan, who says she doesn't have enough of a case to indict, and maybe this should be sent to the detectives... and calls Alec Metro as soon as she leaves his office. The climax of the drama - at Alexa's place - twists and turns like a plateful of spaghetti. The confusing ending did drop this out of Editor's Choice country, but it's still a well-made video and an enthusiastic AAAA Spot Pick.
A solid copper-plated pre-nom for acting for Randy Spears, whose anguished dead cop says more with a silent moment than many lesser actors do with a three-minute speech. Congratulations to scenarist/director Brad Armstrong for some head-scratching sex scenes including one where Spears possesses Temptress and one of them does Alexa, and a great moment where Spears and Temptress absently kiss, then instinctively jump apart, then get together in a scene that cuts from a Spears/Temptress b/g to a Temptress solo.
Square away those endings, Brad, and you get a pre-nom for screenplay next time. Promise.
