Something weird indeed — this is famed director Ron Sullivan aka Henri Pachard's first film. It is a trippy, rough, and bizarre exploration of S&M, with virtually no dialogue, a tinny but compelling Sixties soundtrack, and heavy portentous symbolic portrayals of discipline, coercion, torture, and group sexual dynamics.

A young couple is stalked, photographed making love, and then lured into bondage by a mysterious group led by a Dietrichesque dominatrix. The girl is stripped, whipped, taunted by a nude dancer, and tossed in a cell, where she is whipped again, while her boyfriend is chained, seduced, slapped, then brought around to whipping others himself, including his seductress, a leather boy strapped to a butcher block, and, finally, his girlfriend as she is tied to fireplace irons. Rough scenes include cigarette torture and choking the girl to unconsciousness, and, after a climactic orgy, the group drives to a rocky beach where the others lounge seminude as the young couple drown themselves. There is an unremitting fascination with the B&D, and rapid pacing after a slow beginning gives a headlong feeling. The frank sexuality and crackerjack camera work, including crane and dolly shots, and even interesting hand-held camera work (very difficult in 1967), carry the seeds of future achievement by Sullivan. A must for roughie fans.
