A cute idea that actually could have been tremendous, Love Bites is a sort of vignette film, shot in a softer style aimed at the couples market. While the potentially comic story never really unfolds, each sex scene is carefully crafted for heightened eroticism. In most cases, the sex scenes sizzle.
An African mosquito, carrying a toxin that makes people enter lustful abandon when bitten, is brought to a scientist (Harry Reems) for research. Fortunately, the bug escapes, biting several victims who become uncontrollable sexual hedonists.
For example, sophisticated, staid Amber Lynn gets bitten on an elevator and ravages three different men, although the difficulty in lighting an elevator for a sex scene is evident throughout. In a very funny sequence, Michael Morrison, leader of the Moore Morality, gets stung during a "Lust-Busters" meeting and attacks his French maid (busty Buffy Schinshay), while fantasizing a Roman orgy that involves a bunch of More Morality members. Sexy Gail Force is bitten on the beach, and she takes on both Tony Martino and the pretty Nicole West in a fantasy segment. Let's not leave out Ali Moore, the first victim, who is sexually attacked by the savage who is originally bitten, Andre Bolla.
The best comes last, when doctor Reems and his horny assistant Traci Lords get the fever. It's as great a sex scene as can be imagined when these two giants hook up, and Traci looks stunning as ever, taking on Reems in every way.
It's s shame that the comic elements of the story aren't played up more. At a tight 75 minutes, another ten minutes of "story" (rather than endless sequences where Harry and Traci are chasing the mosquito) would have really filled this production out. Nonetheless, I doubt that many people will be disappointed when attacked by these Love Bites.
