Other "adult video magazines" have come and gone, but the "Old Faithful" of the soft adult genre, Electric Blue, is back in full force. The three latest releases in the series are representative examples of the quality product put out by the producers, although each has its own set of flaws.
Platinum Princess offers up the one and only Seka, tied down and moving towards what must be the world's slowest buzzaw, as a segue between segments on British steakers, an erotic encounter between two apartment-hunting females, a review of Talk Dirty To Me and Nothing to Hide and more. We also see Seka on stage and a look at early footage of the blonde goddess.
A lively mechanical bull and some female cowpunchers with little on is the highlight of Wickedly Wild West, hosted by Annie Ample. Also included are an interview that becomes a "play session" with erotica photographer Suze Randall, a look at a transvestite nightclub in New York, a Bogart parody of 1940's Private dicks and scenes from Exposed and American Pie.
If you think you've seen "Jumbo Jets," you haven't seen Kitten Natividad as a sex-starved stewardess working Electric Airways in Sensuous Stewardesses. High-altitude hanky panky provides the "layovers" between an intimate look at famed transsexual Sulka, a salute to sex Parisian Style, a sizzling London dance troupe's salute to the "kinky side" of romance and more.
One of the benefits of the Electric Blue format is the variety of regular features sprinkled through the three tapes; clips from 20's "Black Maskers," the "Therapy Corner," the "Nude Wives" showcase and more. These "departments" add to the magazine feel of each tape (although watching all three in one fell swoop, as this reviewer did, may tend to mute the impact a little).
There is, however, one aspect of a magazine the producers must work on: timeliness. Except for the hostess' segments, nearly all of the footage in these tapes is from Electric Blue's original run from 1981-1983. One cannot expect viewers to be very interested in reviews of five-year-old films or interviews with actors no longer in the business. The series is well-known for its fine production values and tasteful presentation of the material, and some new segments with today's stars, or features of the state of adult films today, could only improve on what has long been one of softcore's classiest acts.
