Synopsis

Having abandoned the BDSM lifestyle after her inability to accept that she wasn’t “normal,” Sydney finds herself desperately missing it. Unable to dive right back in, she decides to write her thesis on BDSM and the pursuit of abnormal sex. Her research includes interviewing three women in the lifestyle. But as Sydney delves deeper into the lives of these women, she finds herself longing to return to her role as a submissive. Sydney’s interviews lead to a man named Michael—known for helping women realize their darkest desires. After a brief encounter, Michael gives Sydney the ultimate challenge—give him 24 hours to entice her back into the lifestyle. Gia Paige parlays the supporting role in the first Darker Side of Desire that landed her a 2018 AVN Best Boy/Girl Sex Scene nomination (opposite James Deen) into the lead of this excellent sequel, wherein her grad student character, Sydney, having sworn off the BDSM life she embraced in the original, gets lured back into it when she decides to interview several of its practitioners for her master's thesis.

Though it has a paper-thin storyline that really doesn't fulfill the parameters of a true feature (not to mention is highly reminiscent of other works by writer/director Jacky St. James), this four-scene journey through a variety of Dom/sub relationships boasts an absolutely sensational cast, and every sex scene—all one-on-ones employing a range of kink elements, while steering completely clear of any anal—is superb.

The crown jewel of the four, if we have to pick one, is probably the face-off between Aidra Fox and Steve Holmes, set in a cell and involving the use of a cat o' nine tails, a wand vibrator and an electric wand, among other implements. A real rollicker.
