It's the night...in the city...Los Angeles. A poker game, with a porn feature on the tube. The Big Dicks, four of L.A.'s myriad of private investigators, are gathered. All right, the noir angle has been done before. In this case, Blow Off is no worse, and probably not much better, than the rest.
Herschel Savage is Nick King, P. I., on the trail of Paula Wentworth, mistress to the political power moguls. Who needs to know? Why does Paula see the same men regularly? And where has the fifth Big Dick gone?
The answers aren't much of a surprise (this is noir, after all). What is surprising is the waste of good talent in this rather lackluster effort. Ginger Lynn is hawked as one of the stars of the film. She appears in one very short scene, lying on her back while Ms. DeLeeuw gives her quite a licking. That's all. She barely even moves. Same for Eric Edwards. All he does is lie on his back, letting Lisa keep him happy. But, Blow Off does show off Miss DeLeeuw's erotic ability to its finest. What a pleasure seeing a full-bodied adult woman on the screen, bright, witty and lusty, instead of the typical nymphet.
Technical quality is also average. The film is quite grainy, and the lighting is shadowy (this may be intentional, to fit the mood of the piece). The sex scenes are somewhat better than average, with a good deal of oral interplay.
Blow Off isn't a ripoff, but neither is it great porn. It's slightly better than average, familiar story line. But there are some good moments to be had. And on a dark night... when you're alone, in the big city... good moments are sometimes all you've got.
