There's been a lot of hubbub in the past couple of years over "porn for women." It's the belief of some that if a porn release has a conventional plotline, themes of love and tenderness and, in a few "for us by us" cases, a focus on ripped torsos, women will just cream over it.

Some women, indeed, might. But it's the belief of this AVN editor that such horsepucky is just, um, horsepucky. Sure, there's a definite line of degradation and such that a great number of women don't want to watch crossed, but when it comes right down to it, they want the same thing out of a fuck vid that us guys do: fucking.

Brad Armstrong has realized this and packaged it exquisitely in Between the Sheets, essentially a wall-to-waller with a female sensibility that doesn't actually appeal mainly to gay guys. The ravishing Kaylani Lei is the star, mostly narrating in voiceover, but still giving a tremendous performance. The dialogue is sharp and true, driving to the very core of how women really feel about sex.

And the sex is scorching: Lei performs in four of the six scenes, doing boy/girls with Chris Evans, Tommy Gunn and Steven St. Croix and a girl/girl with Lezley Zen, all of them sensational. And the wonderful poignancy of it all is that her character's path coincides with her own; it's the tale of a girl enjoying plenty of hot, steamy sex while wondering if there's any such thing as "Mr. Right," and it just so happens to be one of Lei's last adult productions, coming shortly after she announced her upcoming exit from the industry because of finding - you got it - Mr. Right.

Beautifully shot, edited, written and acted, this, truly, is porn for women. But it's porn for men, too. Sex is sex, and everybody likes it. The women we know have been making this point to us for quite some time. How wonderful it is that somebody in porn finally stepped up and acknowledged it.
