One of director Henri Pachard's better efforts, Between Lovers proves a classy mature tale featuring juicy Jesie St. James as Maggie, a fashion designer and the legendary John Leslie as her philandering husband Brad. The film starts off with a bang when Maggie catches Brad in bed with oriental beauty Mai Lin, just as he's about to shoot his load. This outrages Maggie and she's off to a swinger's bar where she meets a handsome struggling artist named Dexter, slickly played by Joey Silvera. She's soon smitten with Dex and eventually marries him. What's a woman to do with two husbands? She juggles them back and forth while having great sensual time, until the charade begins to unravel.
St. James sizzles in her sexual sessions. She's never looked better and her single steamy bedroom encounter with big John is the erotic highlight of the film. Georgina Spelvin as Jesie's best friend lends strong support. She creates a warm wonderful character who makes her sparkling dialogue snap, crack, and pop, and also does a classic seduction of a naïve young female model. Finally, this is one of those rare adult cassettes that holds strong appeal for the expanding women's audience, with its intricate character development.
