April Flores, a rising star on the BBW scene who’s broken through to “mainstream” porn, is the raison d’etre behind this highly arty alt-porn creation directed by Carlos Batts, an artist, photographer and Flores’ mate. Batts kicks off Glamazons with a scene of Flores posing for a sketch—a literal manifestation of his artist/muse relationship with the plus-size siren.

In addition to the figurative caresses lavished on her by the artist, Flores enjoys the attentions of raven-haired Ruby Violence, a lithe, androgynous beauty who ministers tenderly to Flores’ plush, languid form on a sofa in a sunlit urban loft.

Batts’ photographic background shows through in the many interesting camera tricks—posterized images, black-and-white sequences, wild cuts and angles. The action is as varied as the camerawork, and is interspersed with impressive pole dances by a talented crew of goth-garbed contortionists.

Among the scenes is an encounter between Flores and her nemesis—a perfectly proportioned Barbie doll that she morphs into an impromptu dildo. In another solo scene, Flores does a terrific tease while she dresses up in skin-tight duds—including a scanty hot-pink nothing that she says makes her feel “like a piece of candy.”

In the final scene, a photo session ends up in a passionate boy/girl coupling between Flores and Jerry. Shot in black and white, the scene creates an intimate, vouyeristic vibe. Like the opening moments, it’s an ode to the relationship between artist and model.

Though both Batts and Flores live in Los Angeles, the DVD was produced by HeartCore Films, an arm of pioneering San Francisco-based sex-toy company Good Vibrations. Perhaps that’s one more reason—aside from Batts’ own artistic tendencies—that the aesthetic in Glamazons feels light years removed from the productions that made Porn Valley famous.
