The biggest fault with this excellent pornification of cult franchise The X-Files is that it got branded a "parody," when it's nothing of the kind ... "dark" or otherwise. To the contrary, this is an utterly straight, dramatic reincarnation of the X-Files universe with different actors and hardcore sex.
Thanks to the producers' much-touted use of the cutting edge Red One camera for this project, it has a stunningly rich look that truly stands up as nearly indistinguishable from the real thing. At least as important though, writer/director Sam Hain's sharp script and expert helmsmanship make it feel not that far off from the real thing, too.
On top of that, Kimberly Kane proves an uncanny fill-in for Gillian Anderson as Scully—not just because she bears such an incredible resemblance to Anderson with the red hair dye, but also by respect of positively nailing her mannerisms and hauntingly subdued demeanor to a remarkable "t." It's pretty safe to say, actually, that this has turned out to be the role of Kimberly's career. The built-in X-Files fan base will boost her exposure tremendously, and her own fans will consider this a must-have.
Anthony Rosano gives a great performance as Mulder, as well, striking the right note of brooding neurosis and delivering some very complex dialogue with assured finesse. In his and Scully's investigation of a string of murders, he becomes convinced that the perpetrator is a resurrected Lilith, the biblical succubus (played by an alluringly black-haired Ashlynn Brooke). Ralph Long, in a creepy non-sex turn, plays the cult leader responsible for rousing Lilith through "sex magic."
This, of course, allows for a nice quasi-orgy (Charley Chase and Pike Nelson fucking while three other naked girls look on and stroke themselves). The closing consummation of Mulder and Scully's relationship will be the big draw for a lot of folks, but equally scorching are the g/g with Tory Lane and Taylor Vixen, and the three-way between Brooke, Audrey Bitoni and Evan Stone.
The Sex Files promises to be one of those massive hits among regular porn fans and the porn-curious alike. One of the year's definite must-sees.
