A cult film in the truest sense, director Norifumi Suzuki's scathing indictment of religion is disjointed and at times the serious subject matter deteriorates into complete silliness, yet anyone willing to sit through the effort will find something interesting. There's no hardcore sex in the film, but the depictions of lesbianism and torture are undoubtedly the equivalent of porn for 1970s Japan. Highly controversial for its time, the only reason the movie was most likely allowable is because Japan isn't widely known for its practice of Catholicism.

The plot concerns a young girl (Yumi Takigawa), who attends a convent where her mother died to find out what happened. Once there, Takigawa learns the place isn't quite upstanding. Girls are literally whipped into being chaste brides for Christ, but human nature being what it is, the discipline doesn't work, and soon all holy hell is breaking loose. A witch-hunt ensues, and by film's end, Takigawa finds her answers mired in bloodshed.

Retailing: A nice change of pace for anyone looking to take a break from ass fucking and A2M.
