The title, Shades of Red, is an ongoing theme wherein that particular hue is dominant either overtly or in a subdued manner. A lot of that is due to lighting and filters which, although shot digitally, gives it a film look. Rose-color glasses are not needed.
Michael Sullivan deserves a pre-nom for Best Art Direction - Video. His elaborate settings, thanks to Production Designer and Director Marty Zion, are simply marvelous.
There is absolutely no dialogue, and music is the dominant source of sound. It also has that multi-camera angle and overly edited clipped effect where the scene changes, on the average, every five seconds - and sometimes much less. Soft focus and haziness may provide a dreamy effect, but it quickly loses its impact and, unfortunately, viewer interest may erode.
Despite these shortcomings, this is still very watchable. Mia Smiles has one long scene where, very erotically, she caresses herself with a dry paintbrush prior to bringing out the red paint and coating herself and her male partner in a sensual manner. This naturally heads to messy sex.
