These two Jeanna Fine features, when compared, show Velvet to be far superior in more ways than one. Shot on film, it's a thoughtful and masterfully executed tale about a bored housewife who leads a secret life as a call girl. In retrospect. Velvet was probably shortchanged by its 7 rating back in May of '96, and might rate much higher if re-reviewed today; however, that rating is reproduced here for consistency.
The DVD is passable, with a fair amount of constant moire and edge pixelation. The disc of Inrearendence Day has the same problems, and what's passing for story can't redeem it. Both DVDs come in the difficult Protect-O case, which makes it nearly impossible to get a disc out without damaging it — a danger that was realized in these offices with ID, resulting in a call to Horizon for a second review copy.
