Nurses of the 407 hails from 1982, a banner year for porn parodies of mainstream movies and TV shows – but this one goes a step further and actually steals a bit of helicopter footage from the M*A*S*H movie! Beyond that, this film has move in common with the television version of the concept, but sadly, doesn't do it nearly as well. All the familiar characters are here – Paul Thomas and Jon Martin as the unfunny male leads, Jesie St. James as "Hot Hips," and Joey Silvera as the "Radar"-like "Specs" – but the movie itself never gels. Jesie delivers a couple of decent sex scenes plus a masturbation, as do Tigr and Lynx Canon, but the action never reaches the heat level of some contemporary works.
What does make this DVD work stocking, however, is the absorbing audio commentary of veteran performers Gloria Leonard and Bill Margold. Their conversation is a roughly equal combination of information, philosophy, trivia, self-delusion – one of the high points has to be the pair's agreement that actor-turned-director Paul Thomas is a "pompous ass" – and ego, and, hence, something that any student of porn, or anyone simply looking for a few good laughs along with the porn history, must check out.
