Kinky, stylish, perverse and surrealistic, Hot Dreams delivers all that the title implies – one of the hottest sex films ever.  Despite a few plot flaws, this creative masterpiece pulsates to the rhythm of many faces – both old and new – having the time of their lives both in and out of the sack.

Almost every moment of every sex scene is riveting.  Tiffany Clark, in a supporting role that will become an instant classic, made this reviewer melt as she gives this year’s best head-job to Michael Bruce. Anna Ventura performs with utter abandon in a wild and spontaneous orgy scene near a swimming pool.  Sharon Mitchell and Marlene Willoughby take the lesbian scene to new erotic heights.  And that’s just the beginning.

Hot Dreams, directed masterfully by Warren Evans, studies the boundless fantasy life of Lisa Thomas (Sharon Mitchell) who has incredible erotic daydreams at a moment’s notice, without warning. The most ordinary everyday situations turn into frantic wet dreams, and the viewer is treated to some of the horniest fantasy action ever.

For instance, while husband Michael Bruce is shaving, Mitchell gets raved in her hot tub.  At a dinner party with Jamie Gillis and Marlene Willoughby, ordinary conversation turns into three and four-way action highlighted by the already mentioned lesbian licking.  A wry sense of humor is evident as well, as photographer Mitchell fantasizes Mr. Levine (who organizes advertising photography sessions for her) naked and chained up with an apple in his mouth. Of course, after photographing three muscular male models, Mitchell gets banged by the trio of hunks. The photography here is marvelous, as the writhing action is often filmed from underneath the performers.  The camera lens even gets wet.

Nonetheless, Tiffany Clark steals the film with the erotic performance of 1983. She plays Mitchell’s crazy friend, Renee, who loves male organs of all shapes and sizes.  She answers an obscene phone call at a phone booth and has the caller give her a ring at Sharon Mitchell’s apartment. With funny, filthy dialogue, the caller has Tiffany masturbate with a dildo in front of a mirror.  Michael Bruce comes home in the middle and an incredibly erotic sexual smorgasbord brings him, Clark and the caller to orgasm.  When Bruce asks, “Who was that?,” she answers, “wrong number.”

Also worth mentioning is the massage at the pool that turns into one of the most creative orgies ever recorded for video. Sharon Mitchell gets seduced by two women at once and Marlene Willoughby explodes as if this was her first sexual encounter in years.

Because of the very nature of dream sequences, director Evans might have gone way out on a limb to present the sex scenes in bizarre fashion.  But while every sexual encounter seems completely unique, he doesn’t lose any of the natural steaminess that distinguishes the performances.  The gorgeous photography is offset by creative and professional editing.  There’s very interesting use of noise as well, sounds that enhance the sex scenes and sparse music that punctuate key moments.  And at the end of the film, some simultaneous fornication of New York harbor to the backdrop of the Statue of Liberty is enhanced by loud, pulsating music that perks up the slowest encounter of the film.

Any adult video buff who has watched the evolution of adult films would be pleased with Hot Dreams.  The story is by no means unusual, but the production values are quite remarkable.  It’s not the perfect sex film, but damn near close.
