Let's get one thing straight: if a movie doesn't have a plot, or very much of a plot, there's no way it's going to get an AAAA rating. It doesn't matter how good the sex scenes are... and the ones in this flick are terrific! If only they'd bother to saute just a little storyline in with the bouncing bodies...

Instead of a plot, the viewer is treated to the excellent performance(s) of veteran actor John Leslie, who, while in pursuit of the "Westside Rapist," manages to squeeze in some bed time with the lovely Phaedra Grant. The Westside Rapist (Jerry Smith) —does better: He's raped by Leslie's wife, and, after he steals Leslie's car is deduced by a hitchhiker Sylvia Rodgers. A lesbian scene and a visit to a no-holds-barred disco, where dancers make their best moves horizontally, round out the film.

Of the women, the best performer is certainly Phaedra Grant. We first see her engaging in masturbation by telephone with one of her clients. Yes, she's a hooker, but there isn't really enough story to let us know that. On the other hand, her sexual talents are undeniable. She and Leslie do just about everything a man and woman can do in bed, and they do it with infectious energy. Viewers may find it strange that the Muzak-like melodies which accompany their foreplay stop as soon as the action gets heavy, but the post-production people obviously felt that it was important to add sound effects more in keeping with the action on-screen. Since this happens several more times during the film, it's a technique worth discussing: "the Moan Factor."

Simply put, the addition, after the shooting is completed, of a couple sounding as if they're really enjoying what they're doing on screen can turn a bad movie into a passable one, or a good one into a great one. More often than not, post-production dubbing is forced upon the editor because an airplane flying overhead or some similar disturbance has ruined the mood of the scene. Sometimes, however, the actors really aren't able to get into the action vocally at the time of shooting, so the moans are dubbed in later. A well-done overdub is unnoticeable, but most overdubbing in Boiling Point is obvious.

This film is just too good erotically to be described as simply "solid and erotic." If only the producers could have contracted the scriptwriter to do half as well as the actors, this movie would have been right on target. Instead, it's just a complete turn-on.
