Thanks largely to the success of Chuck Vincent's Roommates, adult films have come of age when dealing with women. Before Vincent's ground-breaking film, women were portrayed mainly as objects for men to dawdle with. They were around, it seemed, just to service men's sexual needs… that was it. While it will still probably be a long time before you see Gloria Steinham's positive review of an adult film printed in an ad or on a videocassette box, there is at least a new sensitivity among adult filmmakers.

Little Girls Lost tries very hard at being a well-rounded adult film with feelings, but it doesn't succeed as well as Roommates did. Again, we're offering a trio of independent women, all looking for big break while climbing the Hollywood ladder. The motto of the film seems to be: "You have to give some head to get ahead." And that they do, albeit often belligerently.

The three women are played by Veronice Hart (in her last leading XXX role), Tigr and Gene Lee. Veronica meets Tigr in a theatre during auditions for a new play, and they quickly become close friends. They soon also realize that Tinseltown is filled with sleazy male producers and agents, all of whom want a little sexual favor in return for a role. But they will have none of that. By the film's finale, the table is turned on the men, as Tigr gives a liberated speech to a horny producer (played by director Roter) that would make even Gloria S. proud.

One of the most unusual element so this film is the wardrobe. All the women wear sexy lingerie or crothless panties when performing sex. It seems that while they're not always willing, they are definitely ready. This helps to make Little Girls Lost erotic, but warrants little sense when considering the points it's trying to get across. Women who are wary of being taken advantage of wearing sexy undergarments is kind of like James Watt mailing away for Burpee seeds, then turning a national park into a parking lot.

This production is fairly interesting. It features an original score mixing up-tempo reggae music and a sensitive ballad. Once again, Veronica Hart proves her acclaimed acting ability with a well-rounded performance. And Tigr's lithesome body and free spirited turn is another highlight. On a sexual level, both have a middle range score here.

Overall, however, the film never matches the commitment or emotional level of Roommates. Little Girls Lost is worth finding, if you don't look too hard.
