A kinky, funky little movie, The Tongue offers sweaty, gusty sex within a spare but plausible setting. Quasi, the main character, has lost his voice due to a tragic crime he committed in a fit of jealousy. The women he attracts have no difficulty with his muteness, because they are compensated by his amazing tongue. Quasi drifts in and out of liaisons with Bridget Maier, Tastee Freeze (a delightful black bisexual), and a horde of others at an orgy. We discover that Quasi has murdered his wife and her lover, and that grief overshadows all else in his life. His reaction to his guilt is the surprising culmination of the film.
The movie stars mostly black performers. In addition, the quirky electronic soundtrack give it an unusual flavor. The action is entertaining because everyone is having fun and Maier puts on a fine show with her girl friend, her girl friend and Quasi (another big, mean dude) and several others. She is indefatigable, if not jaded. The orgy scene demonstrates all possible permutations of human bodies. It would be difficult not to be aroused by some scene in the movie.
Throughout The Tongue, there is humor and "soul." My only complaint is that the video quality was not up to particularly blurry, fuzzy, and grainy. But suffer through it; you should see The Tongue.
