Matinee Idol, a neatly knit little yard, has a central storyline that evolves around the filming of an adult movie titled (naturally) Matinee Idol. Porn stars John Leslie and Jesie St. James, at the onset of the filming, do not exactly hit it off. It’s the old clichéd clash of egos, I’m afraid. The two refuse to perform together, which halts the shooting. What follows, a very lively tale, has generous portions of good fun, good acting and most appreciatively, good sex.
Director Henri Pachard is the man most responsible for all this good stuff. He shows once again that if the attention to detail, which we’ve come to expect from the mainstream Hollywood studios, is brought to bear in this industry, the result will always be a superior film. Every scene in Matinee Idol rings true to life.
Leslie, St. James, Angel and Herschel Savage all perform strong, hot and sometimes even kinky scenes throughout the film. Colleen Brennan and Kay Parker also pitch in to fuel the fires. Comic relief is delivered in liberal doses as well, and usually by Dave Friedman who plays a would-be Hollywood mogul with a kind of charming innocence.
