Reviews

With a lifeless, dull script, mediocre acting and only one sex scene really worth mentioning, Traci Lords is actually wasted in Jean Genie, a movie with high aspirations that falls way short of the mark.

Using actual film of Egypt (camels, desert, etc.) a man buys an ancient lamp. Upon his sudden death, his father, an aging man with one last breath of excitement before his impending death, is willed the lamp. Out pops Jean Genie, a.k.a. Traci Lords, who (of course) can't have sex with the man, because she'll lose her powers. So she turns him young, gives him some cash and picks up stripper Judy Powers for the dullest of the mere five sex scenes in this film.

The others include a very slow orgy after Traci turns the old folks in the rest home into youngsters and a decent three-way with Powers, Drake and Ken Starbuck, with flashing red motel lights used as an effect. When Traci finally goes full-force with Drake at the end, the scene is only fair, marred by weird effects, such as fireworks and zodiac signs and pyramids in the backdrop.

The grainy film quality doesn't help either. You can see that the producers are attempting to present a nice story with plot and character development, but it never really works. Even Traci Lords, as lovely as she is, doesn't look like herself in this below-average feature.
