This is definitely a weird one, with a script that seems mostly improvised and a preposterous story that's played for laughs but isn't very funny at all, just peculiar. Viper, sporting her now infamous Oriental body tattoo, is a crazy woman of leisure ensconced in a suburban hideaway with her equally warped son and daughter. The action is just a typical day in her strange life. Incest and casual sex with virtually everyone she meets (including a pair of bums rummaging through her trash) are the order of the day, along with a very unappetizing habit of playing with food. Having a roast chicken rubbed on your back is just not my idea of eroticism, though Frank Perdue would probably love it.

There's plenty of well-shot sex and some excellent use of close-ups, but the action remains lukewarm throughout and sometimes gets plain repulsive. There's a lot of carrying on with the filthy bums and their bath (the usually seductive Patti Petite is the female bum) that we could have done without altogether. Maybe this is supposed to recall Down And Out In Beverly Hills, but, frankly, who needs it? There are some funny moments, particularly the opening, when Mom, walking along a country road, stops a passing car and starts gyrating on the hood.

But overall, there's a load of aimless talk that's not paced properly and a ton of standard video sex that looks good but fails to ignite anyone's passions, even the participants'. Still, give Born To Be Wild credit for trying to be offbeat, which it certainly is. For some people, weirdness has its own rewards.
