Jerry Lewis’ idiosyncratic Nutty Professor gets a couple of refreshing new wrinkles and some daffy sexual plot twists in Extreme Heat.
Playing the role of the gel head bumbling professor, Rick Savage is much too shy with girls. Chancing upon a concoction designed to cure his gastroenteritis, the prof turns himself into a finger-snapping sexual preying mantis named Bobby Lust. Lust wears Bruce Willis sunglasses and a blow-dried look that can cut cheese. Women are impressed. His sudden appearance in a strip joint curries favor with Stella (Sheena Horne), one of his former students. Stella visions herself an aspiring grand dame of the theater but is mopping up tables waiting on her big break. Stella and Lust are a match made in a test tube.
A slug of the prof’s secret formula, likewise, does wonders for Brittany Morgan, one of his current students who turns into a raving lesbian. Morgan does a couple of nice turns throughout thanks to the miracles of modern science. One also suspects that Nick Corleone, owner of the strip joint, played by Bobby Martin, took a whiff of the stuff. Martin gets to do a lot of slippery John Leslie facial expressions as he auditions strippers in private consultation. A nice little scene here gives Rapunzel-haired Jessica Wylde a chance to show off her great long legs.
Don’t look for great plot development, but we do get some nice wimp-turns-macho sex man touches. Savage is much more convincing in this alter ego than he was in another Scotty Fox effort – Throbbin Hood.
