When first hearing of an adult firm series directed by women, all former adult stars, the first thought that comes to mind is diet smut.  You know, the kind they show on cable with lots of suggestion and little action.  However, Femme’s Star Director Series is a pleasant surprise.  In the series’ first volume, A Taste of Ambrosia, the female directors show they not only understand eroticism, but good storytelling as well, quite an accomplishment in today’s adult entertainment media.

The first segment, “Nine Lives Hath My Love,” features Jeanna Fine as a woman who seems to prefer giving her affections to cats rather than to men.  Randy Paul plays her naturally aggravated boyfriend.  Both are quite physically attractive as well as being fairly talented performers.

“The Pick Up” follows the previous segment’s “mysterious” ending.  It chronicles a night in the lives of a man (Rugby Rhodes) and the woman he meets on the street (Alexis Firestone).  He takes her home for what quickly becomes a very hot encounter.  Their performance is adequate, but the surprise element of the ending is lot when the “john” produces a condom from his wallet and the supposed hooker doesn’t even notice the money.  Still, a minor flaw and one which can easily be overlooked.  Perhaps, as this segment suggests, spice be added to a romance with a bit of fantasy and earnest role playing.

Although this series is nothing really new or revolutionary, it’s not hard to enjoy.  Couples should enjoy sharing both the story and sex.  Enough is shown so that there is no doubt actual lovemaking is being observed, but it is generally done tastefully and with a touch of imagination.  If this is the new breed of diet smut, I’ll take it.  Now if I could just find a light beer that didn’t taste like cedar water.
