If we were to take Paul Thomas's At the Pornies as a serious thesis on the state of video reviews, then the editorial staff at this magazine is walking around bowlegged and driving around in Maseratis, courtesy blow jobs and unmarked bills in sealed envelopes.

But since that's as far from reality as House Speaker Jim Wright's from the White House, then we must look to the humor of it, the premise of which is funny as a crutch. But that doesn't make At The Pornies no less entertaining and infinitely better than the current video garbage floating out there.

Mike Horner and Ron Jeremy play Sissy and Egbert (a parody that should be finally laid to rest), a couple of acerbic sex video critics who inspire professional jealousy from another critic Rock Reed (Jamie Gillis) who himself is a little light in the loafers.  Gillis wants to capture these guys in compromising situations to discredit them and sets up a hidden camera scam using the bimbo star of Rhonda Does Rhode Island, (Aja) and Kristie Leigh. Of course Horner and Jeremy are out to discredit each other, making Gillis' job that much easier.

Gillis swishes it up outrageously, and the sex scenes are shot fairly enticingly. Director Thomas even has the gracious humor of taking a shot at himself.  Viewing a Thomas clip from one of the Brat features, Horner quips, "we have a video that starts nowhere and goes real slow from there." That's an epitaph that can register on most tombstones these days.
