Old classic nudie films from the early Russ Meyer era are pretty hard to find, period, much less find them on video. However, if you're in the market for some real collector's gems, Video Dimensions of New York stands as good a source for that kind of material as there is.

Betty Page: America's Pinup won't exactly be starling news for Bettyphiles who have probably seen some of this Irving Klaw material umpteen million times. But since Betty Page is to current cheesecake collecting what a 1952 Mickey Mintle is to baseball cards, those new to the wonderful world of pinup art are strongly advided to take a look at this tape.

Nostalgics (they're the ones with cobwebs under their armpits and Bazzoka bubble gum on their breath) have proclaimed Betty Page as the reigning symbol of the last age of innocence. These wonderful little vignettes displaying Betty in a wide range of glamour posturing will show you why. Interestingly, Page, who did tons of photo nudity, was rarely caught in the state of undress on film. That's why this tape rates a strong look, it features the famous excerpt titled Forbidden which shows (gasp!) a topless Betty.

Blaze Starr: Nudist has for years been kind of like the Holy Grail among nudie collectors, and Video Dimensions finally cemented a deal with director Wishman (Amazing Transplant, Keyholes Are For Peeping) for the video rights. On the timely heels of the mainstream film, Blaze, this film is typical of the many "nudist lifestyle" pictures of its heyday. Brief plot: Blaze is about to get married, but the pressures of her hectic schedule necessitate her taking some time off to chill out. She happens to walk into an afternoon matinee (dressed to kill, by the way) that's featuring a travelogue-type thing on Sunny Palms Lodge, a nudist colony. Hmm, she ponders, "I've got to investigate this thing." Will she... won't she? Will Blaze finally doff her duds and bare all? You bet. Why do you think they filmed these shows to begin with? Cheesey production values makes this even better.

Buck Kartalian, whose mug and physique usually had him playing criminal types in Hollywood B pictures (his one claim to fame is a bit part as "Dynamite" in Cool Hand Luke), plays the Jack Nicholson role in this nudie remake of Little Shop of Horrors. You'll debate what's more disgusting, watching Kartalian feeding naked girls to his Venus carnivore or seeing him gnaw on an egg salad sandwich as he peeks in on naked couples romping around in cars or picnic blankets. Nevertheless, very titillating, even by today's standards. Rene Bond in the cast makes this a guaranteed must-see flesh extravaganza.
