The latest John Leslie feature is a perfect example of biting off more than one can chew, if only on the dramatic level, since this feature contains mostly very erotic sex scenes. Oh What A Night is a variation on the Petrified Forest theme, where a wild criminal takes over a secluded retreat and turns it into a hotbed of tension. Unlike the Bogart classic, most of the emotional outbursts in this release are of a sexual nature.
The unlikely cast of characters include a drifter (Sean Michaels), who happens upon the backwoods restaurant which is owned by Wayne Summers and Cheri Taylor. A hopeless romantic, Taylor falls in love with Michaels and wants to dump her business and run away with him. The closest they get is a superb quickie in the backroom.
In due time, Gus "The Runt," a hardened criminal (Silvera) and his cohorts (Wallice and Hartley) arrive and take over the joint, deriving great pleasure by making many of the customers and staff have sex with each other to while away the time. The inhabitants include some wealthy snobs (Jon Martin and waitress (Steele) who doesn't speak. She can't be that dumb, however, because Steele manages to have the best sex scene in a feature, a threeway with Spears and Price.
Oh What A Night succeeds with the erotic elements and manages to squeeze six encounters of varying lengths into the feature. However, when the spoken word is dominant, it starts to fall flat (though not for the lack of good dialogue -- the script is very tight). Too many dramatic pauses and unrehearsed lines drag down the pace, but on the average this is still very much the kind of feature worth supporting in terms of quality and thoughtfulness, in addition to hot sex. Another must for retailers.
