My editor and I were discussing this movie the other day. "Why," he asked, "has it been written about in every newspaper from here to Timbucktu?"  "Why are Ebert and what's his name reviewing it?"  "Who is director Anita Rosenberg anyway, and why are they saying these things about her?"  "And who cares?"

The answers to these and other thought-provoking questions are not found blowin' in the wind my friends: They're found right here in Adult Video News. You can quote me on that.

Actually, Assault Of The Killer Bimbos is a bad movie -- a rancidly bad movie, devoid of much of anything.  There's terrible dialogue, ugly photography, dreadful acting and very little bimbo breast.

Well, the deal is that America has been slow on picking up on the R-rated market that has been an important part of home video for years.  Those in the video know are accustomed to titles like this and movies like Spare Parts, Sorority Babes In The Slimeball Bowlarama, Galactic Gigolo and Hollywood Chainsaw Hookers.  When you have titles like these, who cares about the movie itself, anyway?

Well, when a movie like Bimbos opens across the country and gets this sort of attention, the filmmakers better start worrying about more than a title.  The R-rated video market is coming out of the closet, and if Bimbos is any indication, it's not a very pretty sight.

The movie details the adventures of a pair of bimbo go-go girls who are framed for the murder of their boss by some organized crime types.  They go on the lam, pick up a feisty waitress along the way, meet some hunky surfer dudes and head to Mexico.

Christina Whitaker, the head of bimbo, is gorgeous, but she doesn't do any nude scenes.  Elizabeth Kaitin, who plays her sidekick, is a blonde Suzanne Sommers type, and she looks good with or without her halter on.  Surfer dudes Nick Cassavettes and Griffin O'Neal just seem to be along for the ride. Actually, the most impressive character in this movie is Eddie Deezen, the wacked out Jerry Lewis clone you may remember for 1941, I wanna Hold Your Hand, and Surf II.  His cameo as a goofy deputy hot on the bimbo's trail is brilliant.

Some have written that there's feminist points made inherent in the bimbos' adventures, that the gals use their collective intellects to upend the mob boss who framed them, that they overcome bimboitis in the process.  Let's hope that the filmmakers can overcome the dumbness of this film and put the R-rated video movie back where it belongs.  And, yes, there is a sequel in the offing.
