A very young Randy West, who plays writer Ben Brookfield, breaks out into song out of nowhere during a book signing, and you know you're in for a weird viewing experience. Taboo VII, subtitled The Wild and the Innocent, has nothing to do with the themes of the very successful Taboo series, but is an allright film in its own right.
Filmed several years back, but never released on video until now, director Kirdy Stevens proves that he knows movie-making once again, as this was shot on film. His sex scenes are well-developed a nicely shot and a few of them are very hot. Jamie Gillis and Mai Lin have an extended stint, while Randy West, Susanna French and Lysa Thatcher warm up an already steamy hot tub. There's even a wacky orgy with strains of Wagner's Ride of the Valkyries providing a backdrop.
West plays the best-selling romance author who runs into old flame (whom he never screwed) Lysa Thatcher for some reminiscences about their days at Whitestone, a sexually free commune/school where everything from sex with paint to outdoor lust takes precedence over academic achievement. The story basically follows the flashbacks until the film-ending threeway where Thatcher and West finally consummate their relationship.
While the age of the film doesn't really detract from its carnal pleasures, it is nice to see French and Thatcher, two pros of 1970's porn, once again. Herschel Savage has a funny cameo and the direction is pretty much competent. As a throwback to the days when adult movies were, in fact, really movies, Taboo VII is recommended. But it's not a Taboo movie in the true sense and retailers would be wise to let their customers know. Unique, alluring packaging should make it move.
