The old "mismatched roommates" storyline gets a fresh going-over in Dark Corners, a leisurely paced and understatedly erotic tale that features two fine performances from stars Erica Boyer and Tracey Adams. The plot has stage actress Boyer moving in with mysterious artist Adams, who takes it upon herself to open the shy Boyer up to new sexual experiences. And wouldn't you know, the roomie takes to Adams' hedonistic lifestyle like a duck to water! The entire cast delivers excellent performances, even though, as is standard operating procedure, no actor is seen more than twice.
Best scene credits go to Adams for a very steamy seduction session with Wallice, who plays Boyer's stage partner, and look for a well-done girl/girl encounter between Boyer and Missy Warner. Almost every sex scene starts out slowly and builds with deliberate momentum that adds to the erotic tension —it's a style that mainstream reviewers call "couples scenes" o "European pacing", and is all too rare in most features —and the result is refreshingly enticing. At one point, Adams says to Boyer, "dark corners should be explored," and that certainly applies to Dark Corners the film as well.
