For a change of pace, viewers may be surprised and pleased with this vintage Asian fare. Judging by the cars and clothing styles, Love Fever is a late 70s film which centers on the pursuit of an innocent man believed to have murdered his female loan shark.
The Clam Fairy (the better of the two) is a period piece that borders on surrealism, when a young samurai finds his past lover re-incarnated as a large clam. He keeps it in a bucket of water, and it transforms into a woman who performs magic tricks, cooks and makes love to him.
Curiously, both contain elements where the protagonist must fend himself from the advances of a woman other than his true love. Talk about the difference in cultures! Both films are much more plot-centered than Western porn, and the sexual situations develop out of relationships. There are plenty of unintentional laughs from the subtitles which are translated into broken English.
