Bijou Video has picked up the independently produced Goodjac series, which means that these oddball, offbeat, occasionally endearing, sometimes pretentious, and always safe-sex conscious videos will probably be finding their way into lots more shops and gay households.
This Goodjac is divided into four segments. “Fantasy Reality” and “Hunter” are each solo pieces. If you like the men, you may like watching them beat off. Wes Roberts is clonish, uninhibited, energetic. Rick Brill is dark, fat, and hung. He’s somebody’s type, but you’d never see him in a William Higgins video.
“The Closets” is a tedious artsy exercise; performers draped in sheets steal in and out of doors. “The Collector” is the best thing here, a little story about an art connoisseur who dreams of an encounter with a bearded Renaissance youth. It’s handled with considerable delicacy and a certain flair.
All in all, Goodwin’s efforts remain decidedly outside the mainstream of gay erotica in the eighties – no glamour, not glitz, and nothing even remotely approaching a formula. I only wish I found his stuff more erotic. There’s a lot of skill and personal vision here, but Goodwin still hasn’t learned how to package heat.
