Here they are — the low-budget nude dancer tapes — and they're not too bad at all. Midnight Dancer is a studio shoot that's set up to look like a dance club, and it's clearly not as good as the real thing, especially in the lighting effects. For comparison, take a glance at Pole Cats, shot on location at the Odd Ball Cabaret in the Valley, and you'll see what I mean. The Odd Ball is no Deja Vu or Thee Doll House, but the whole look of Pole Cats is more authentic, and visually superior. So, aside from some hot babes, what's here to attract the softcore aficionado? First, excellent music, so far above the typical porn-rock score that it is part of the sensual viewing/listening experience. Second, the interviews with the girls, although a touch repetitive, reveal a group so much more articulate, and comfortable with communicating than most XXX "personalities", that it beats the Totally Nasty/Dirty Debs/Video Virgins-style interactions all to hell. I guess it's the difference between live performers and video actresses. There's also one basic problem with these two videos: in emulating the MTV-style quick-cut editing common to this genre, the camera is too coy. Too many times, the camera fails to linger, or it cuts away before showing the lower half of the girl's body. And there's a few bodies to see here. The best-of-show in Midnight Dancers are porn star Chelly, an energetic dancer; and Jerica, a pretty, dark-blonde-haired girl reminiscent of Angela Summers. Pole Cats' six dancers are all real winners: a blonde Tracy Nelson lookalike; pornstress Heather Hart puts in an appearance; Jade, a thirtyish blonde in a pageboy with a very tight body; Mishell, a Sierra clone with killer thighs you want to wade between; and Sidney's bland smooth features and soft slim body are reminiscent of the chameleonic Kelly O'Dell. The stunner is Bridgette, whose ample boobs, round hips, shaven pubes and cute smile bring to mind Christy Canyon. While the purchaser of nude dancer tapes may find more production value for the same price in the established club tapes, the renter will be very pleased, especially if he spots his favorite Odd Ball girl. Overall, very enjoyable, and dance fans should watch for more from Midnight.
