The setup for Sentence of Pain is an excellent one. It portrays the gritty urban sprawl with camerawork that lies in surreal territory somewhere between video, film and cartoon.
All of which serves to introduce Lauren Fairchild, a heavy-set woman who could scare the shit out of Bubba Smith. Fairchild is apparently the city's designated dispenser of punishment and she's assigned two hard cases: Bob Baker, who is, in Fairchild's words, a "public offenduh;" and Bill Fenway a serial TV degenerate.
The scenario is quite runny, but watching Baker and Fenway bare-assed throughout most of the proceedings, isn't. Fairchild conducts the spanking, infantile behavior, nipple tweaking and humiliation rituals with a sense of underlying slyness, and these two guys? Well, let's put it this way. A scout from Chippendales isn't going to be knocking on their door any time soon, even though Fenway gives it his all with an impromptu go-go dance in bikini under wear The most he can expect out of this is to get a baseball park named after him.
Though the packaging would suggest a dark, brooding subtext, keep in mind that most of the material is, seemingly, played for laughs. A good novelty bondage tape to stock.
