Proving that you can, indeed, keep a good man down, Henri which Eclipse, probably does as much for writer Joseph Conrad's reputation as Conrad's contemporaries who sought to vilify him.
Eclipse is an ultra-weird take on Conrad's Heart of Darkness wihch, of course, inspired Apocalypse Now. Apocalypse is a good word to describe this effort, most of which makes about as much sense as Marlon Brando's contributions to Apocalypse Now. Sydney St. James stars as a porn star who hasn't worked in a year (90% of her dialogue is voiceover), but is sent on a strange journey of retribution to off director Adam Vaughn. Vaughn, lathered in transvestite war paint and versed in Karate Kid martial arts moves, has apparently gone over the edge. So has this feature with its babbling, Kafkaesque indulgences, overt XXX industry invective, truncated sex scenes, coitus abruptus, and a stable of characters, all of whom seem to be working in other video features, not necessarily this one.
It's only fitting, then, that Joey Silvera, the master of non sequitur, has a sex scene - a relatively ordinary threeway with Beverly Glen and Vixxen, with Joey popping on Bev's tummy from the mish position. Nikki Sinn, on the other hand, manages a Best Supporting Actress nomination in her diva harangue prior to a doggie-anal encounter with Buck Adams. Valeria has Hank Rose and Jim Schiffer jerking off on her legs but seems to be exuding the pleasure quotient of a gangbang delivered by the Menendez brothers. Can't say I blame her. St. James gets doggied by Shawn Ricks as she blows "director" Vaughn through a cutout in some wallboard. yeah, that's what I said, and "producer" Randy West proceeds with a dubiously concocted, annoyingly edited encounter with ingenue Aurora (a pretty girl wasted atrociously) that delivers zilch for all the "drama" lent to making it seem what it's not.
If I'm belaboring some points, it's because Eclipse is being touted highly on a few levels (mostly by Pachard). In deference to him, I viewed this feature on there different occasions to make certain I hadn't missed any true meanings of life hidden somewhere in its passages. For this, I deserve combat pay.
Eclipse is as far from mainstream porn as Cambodia is from Canoga Park. It's probably meant to be funny, but isn't. The sex is avant garde in approach but facile in delivery, and it requires commitment from the viewer beyond the levels of normal endurance. In other words, it ain't gonna play in Peoria. Strictly speaking, the content of Eclipse is material reserved for a particularly defined segment of the XXX audience, so keep that in mind when stocking.
Also in the cast: Ona Zee, J.D. Anthony.
