It ain't the Three Stooges, but The Nurse isn't bad as far as hospital humor takes you. In fact, the performances are so low-key you'd swear the entire production was off the musical scale.
Surgeon Joel Laurence, who has a penchant for giving breast exams beyond the norm (like a lively scene with Johnni Black that finds a condom squirreled away in her crotch), is waged in a political battle with hospital administrator Steve Austin, who gets his penis slammed in a door accidentally by one of the nurses. Austin, whose accents slip somewhere between Nazi commandant and Ted Kennedy, is ticketed for surgery. The outcome, nevertheless, is fairly predictable stuff given all the clues tossed in your face.
Some of the sight gags (there's one hilarious bit with a urine bag) are clever enough as to take some of the sexual situations for granted. But don't, or else you'll miss a clever bit of business that occurs between Laurence and nurse Missy in the X-ray room. Besides that, Randy Storm takes it in the ass from patient Kyle Stone, and that's always good for an HMO plan.
