Like most sex-instruction tapes, this one takes itself a tad too seriously. But that's a mere quibble. This is top-notch work, beautifully shot, masterfully edited and art-directed. It's also well-written, narrated, and directed by Mike Horner. The structure, built around the five elements of the Tao of Sexual Wisdom (water, wood, fire, metal, and earth) enables Horner to utilize a range of well-chosen images from nature, sexual interactions, and art. The elements, we are told, each have associated colors, emotions, bodily organs, animals, direction, and seasons. There are wonderful touches to illustrate yin/yang contrasts, like cutting together similar scenes shot in both sunlight and at dusk; and shooting a couple making love, first dwarfed in the bole of a giant sequoia, then bending a sapling with their pumping action. Pencil this one in for a Best Alternative Specialty nomination.
