Like a baseball game, Anything That Moves may be the first adult film ever to be called on account of rain.  The sound stage sprinkler system was accidentally touched off during its filming, and portions of the shoot were literally washed away and had to be redone.  The production delay may have been a blessing in disguise.

Anything That Moves is a nifty little murder yarn that focuses not so much on whodunnit but why did they do it.  The film is one of the few adult motion pictures of recent vintage that can stand on its own two feet without a gratuitous blow job, although there are more than a few running around in this picture.  This, you'll find, is an adult film that you'll remember long after the final credits for a number of reasons.

The story (a Leslie/Henri Pachard collaboration), the visual flow, the cast chemistry, the editing (Leslie), the music (Bill Heid) and the overall presentation of Anything That Moves is non-assuming while being pure and convincing filmmaking.  Selena Steele does solid work and should be up for a Best Actress nomination in the lead role as the frosty, confrontational dancer who's sucked unwittingly into a fatal love triangle.

The story is told in noirish-style flashback as Selena recounts to cops Lee Chandler and Melody (not Melanie) Moore, the events that lead up to the murder of Tim Lake, the sleazy, nogoodnik boyfriend/agent of her pal Tracy Winn.

As stated before, knowing who did it is not nearly as important as enjoying the subtexts of this relationship.  Winn and Steele know they can't go on being bimbos forever.  Tracy wants to co-venture a beauty shop and get out of the dance racket.  Thus, the sex takes on a more defined orientation: sordidly emotional (when Lake fucks dancer Cassidy wickedly, doggie-style, so the fuming Winn can hear the groans in the next room); or one of brusque expediency like when Selena and Tracy (her dimples and sweetness get in the way a bit) do bachelor parties and fuck the guys (Winn with Randy Spears; Steele with Joel Lawrence) with the mentality of CPA's at tax time.  These gals are tough acts to follow.

Come to think of it, there's not a tenderoso love fuck to be found in this nasty urban melodrama that has its sex rendered attack dog-style.  Always stooping one step lower to humiliate Winn by tossing his dalliances in her face, Lake wants to force Tracy into the frying pan of a threesome (Heidi Kcat, himself and Nick E.).  She's taunted when she passes on the honor which makes Nick's cum shot on her car window a thing of beauty if you appreciate perversity as an art form.  As you'll witness, Anything That Moves has a flagrant, neurotic intensity that is essential to the rhythm of the mating ritual.

Purists may not stand up and cheer the decision to intercut parallel sex scenes, but when you realize that the editing is orchestrated to the precise beat of the music and is matched, to some degree, frame to frame to body angles then it takes on a unique subliminal higher plane of eroticism.  Selena and Tracy's stage show is a formidable showing of flesh, and is one of the film's intriguing highlights.

Anything That Moves is first class adult entertainment in superb packaging and is a strong candidate for the year's Best Film.
