Synopsis

A shady enterprise known only as The Company, run by a mysterious Employer (Ivy Lebelle) is in the business of training assassins-for-hire. When Mason Reinhart's (Scott Nails) target (Aidra Fox) exposes him to the dark truth behind The Company's history, he sets out on a mission to discover his true identity. After the Employer assigns a contract for Mason's death, elite assassin Sable (Jessa Rhodes) is expected to collect a large pay day, but crossing paths with Mason will expose them both to a past they aren't supposed to remember.

Reviews

A tour de force crime thriller, Kill Code 87 offers familiar mainstream-movie elements like the brainwashing from 1962's The Manchurian Candidate and the quick casual killings of early James Bond movies (plus a set piece straight outta early Kubrick) mixed with contemporary dialogue, story-motivated sex scenes, and a plot with more twists than a bagful of pretzels.

Head badguy Ivy Lebelle sends her brainwashed minions to off selected targets, with an eye to profit for "The Company." When nosy reporter Aidra Fox starts investigating, she gets on the target list—but Lebelle didn’t count on Fox exposing all her evidence to brainwashed would-be assassin Scott Nails, turning him against Lebelle. This puts a target on his own back, a million-dollar bounty that Lebelle's assassin squad (Jessa Rhodes, Michael Vegas, Ricky Johnson) is eager to cash in.

The action—and there's a lot of it—takes place in dark, night-lit locales, expertly shot by cinematographer Francois Clousot, and the acting is superlative, particularly Jessa Rhodes as a been-there-done-that world-weary veteran assassin who doesn't mind banter and a drink with a target before the bullets fly. Kudos to director Clousot for keeping it dark and only using light interiors for a visual shock, and editing team Margot Misandry, Papa McMuffin and Alexplose for keeping the run time to a taut action-filled 120 minutes.

Recommended. Emphatically.
