America’s Porn Star is a self-proclaimed “neat freak” who owns an immaculate home in a Los Angeles suburb, employs a personal assistant, smokes a lot of weed and “fucks like Mike Tyson.”
She grew up in “a poverty-type home” in Miami where she used to get sick “all the time,” but now she earns five figures per month—just from her private Snapchat feed—and enters 2020 as arguably the most well-known adult performer on the planet.
Now also an established producer, director and entrepreneur, Riley Reid, aka Ashley (her given name), in less than eight years has become a future porn legend whose hardcore sex clips have sparked dozens of viral memes and whose social media accounts are followed by millions of fans from around the world.
In this terrific showcase from Evil Angel Films, we see a side of Reid not seen before during the documentary portion of the almost five-hour epic, while we also get five sex scenes that demonstrate why the petite and bubbly brunette is not just a superstar, but a global porn icon at 28.
The I Am Riley showcase is the third and final edition in the game-changing trilogy directed by Evil Chris, who went deep with Reid on the heels of guiding last year’s I Am Angela—featuring Australian juggernaut Angela White—to the 2019 AVN Award for Best Star Showcase. The former merchandise manager for Linkin Park also introduced the docu-porn showcase format with I Am Katrina in 2017, when the spotlight was on notorious porn bad girl, Katrina Jade.
In what has become a signature of the series, Evil Chris appoints a celebrity guest director to helm each scene of I Am Riley, adding meaningful layers to the weight of each encounter. The brilliant directing lineup for I Am Riley consists of another who’s-who of adult production as heavy hitters such as Jonni Darkko, Chris Streams, Bree Mills and Evil Angel founder John Stagliano all take turns calling the shots.
Then in a first for I Am, Reid herself also directed one of the throw-downs—a three-way with Isiah Maxwell and Izzy Lush that initially debuted on her official website, ReidMyLips.com.
But what distinguishes I Am Riley from other star showcases is the lengths to which Evil Chris goes to tell the performer’s story, combining classic elements of journalism with revealing glimpses behind the scenes both on and away from the set.
Still as exuberant and playful as she was when she was making a name for herself in the early 2010s, Reid lets her personality shine through in I Am Riley, appearing self-aware, thoughtful and unapologetically herself throughout the movie.
She says she lost her virginity at 15 and participated in “orgies” in high school, but she actually was a non-sex extra in her first five adult videos before finally asking for “my own scene.”
We learn more about Reid—who drives a Subaru—as she gives a tour of her home, showing where she sleeps at night—a modest bedroom with large windows to maximize the natural light—and inside her closet, where her AVN Awards dresses are organized on hangers. The 2016 AVN Female Performer of the Year also opens up her “memory box”—a treasure chest full of photos and mementos from her life.
Reid says she is one of six kids—she is close to her eldest sister—and she hasn’t spoken to her mother in six months. She says her parents split when she was 5—her father is a devout Christian who would shame her for how she dressed—and she was raised in a shared custody arrangement.
She used to think “maybe this job came to me so I can help support my family”—but their relationship is strained.
Reid’s main source of income is her “premium” Snapchat that she charges fans to view on a monthly basis. She likes the personal nature of Snapchat because it’s as if her fans can receive a message from her “directly from my phone to their phone.”
In one of the most touching parts of the showcase, Reid decides to allow random fans to call her on Snapchat, producing some remarkable footage as she fields calls from as far away as Saudi Arabia.
One fan calling from Cincinnati explains to Reid that someone pretending to be her scammed him for more than $100,000 a couple years ago, when he thought he was sending the money to her.
“I still love everything about you,” he tells Reid, who appears shocked by his revelation. “I appreciate your honesty. … It would still be great to get with you.”
He adds, “Now I can finally get a haircut” because whoever was pretending to be Reid told him he should allow his hair to grow out. So it had been a year and nine months since his last haircut. It’s a disarming moment in which Reid expresses genuine empathy for the fan.
While it’s hard to select the best sex scene—Reid remains one of the strongest performers in porn—one that clearly would be in the running is the double-penetration episode in which Reid is ravaged by veteran deal-closers Markus Dupree and Ramon Nomar under the direction of Chris Streams. The scene becomes more enjoyable due to the pre-scene interviews and banter between the performers, not to mention Streams outlining his vision for how everything should unfold.
The all-girl three-way scene—directed by Gamma’s Chief Creative Officer Bree Mills—that involves fellow I Am stars Angela White and Katrina Jade just feels big in every way—and the trio doesn’t disappoint as all three collide on screen for the first time in their careers.
In another must-see, Jonni Darkko—who calls Riley “screaming hot”—oversees French heartthrob Manuel Ferrara—the six-time AVN Male Performer of the Year—in a scalding anal hook-up with her.
Reid also goes all in with two-time AVN Transsexual Performer of the Year Aubrey Kate with help from Sebastian Keys, under the direction of legendary pornographer John Stagliano. The gonzo porn pioneer even choreographs some pre-scene dancing with the performers in what becomes an entertaining and intimate build-up to the sex.
Reid shows her growth in the industry in the first sex scene of the title, directing and performing with Izzy Lush and Isiah Maxwell in a stylish three-way with help from her go-to videographer, Alex Ladd.
From the catchy original song about Reid performed by Not Rappers to the goofy footage of our star shaving her underarms during the closing credits, there is nothing ordinary about I Am Riley.
Once again Evil Chris delivers a package befitting the level of stardom his subject has achieved, creating the definitive Riley Reid showcase and wrapping his ambitious I Am trilogy with a mic drop.
