Like the soap operas it spoofs, All Soaped Up starts with a preview of what's coming up, a dialogue scene with Shay Sights and Nick Manning getting upstaged by mute-since-the-car-accident Samantha Sterlyng. It lasts a few seconds before Manning forgets his line and snaps, "I sound like a porn star! 'Dropping loads'?!??" A moment later, to mediate an argument between Sights and Sterlyng, Manning takes them off for a chat and a threeway - where the one-upsmanship between the girls continues through the sex scene.
Welcome to soap opera, porn style. Where director Tyce Buné, who's always baby-wiping his hands, moans, "I left porn for this" before ambitious P.A. AnnMarie shows him she can take direction, and then takes her advantage by asking for the rest of the day off. Backbiting (Lee Stone and Manning trying to one-up each other on the stud-boy front), backstage fucking (Calli Cox in a sweaty set-to with motivational speaker Cheyne Collins), clichés (the P.A. who runs in and takes a role to help get the show on the road) and thrown-away in-jokes are the order of the day, with everybody playing to camera and overacting in a gleeful send up of one of the few entertainment genres held in even less regard than porn. Five sex scenes ratchet up the heat.
Pre-noms to Barry Wood for his superlative camerawork and the Cheyne Collins/Calli Cox do-si-do for couples scene, plus Rinaldi for direction and script, plus the whole shootin' match for Best Sex Comedy.
