Reviews

You never know what to expect from a Kay Brandt movie. The writer/director seems to understand that what her fans really want is something different, unexpected—and she delivers. Though there is one thing you can count on: Heavy in plot and dialogue, her movies give adult performers a chance to show off more than their sexual prowess.

The standout in Naked is Britney Amber. In arguably her biggest role to date, the wide-eyed blonde plays a bank employee who likes to “commune and connect with nature” on the weekend. But she’s looking for something more, so she auditions for a reality show where she’ll spend 27 days in the wild—and in the buff. (Brandt wrote the movie, which is based on her own novella, because she was fascinated by the reality TV show Naked and Afraid.)

“I have far more survival skills than most of the people who sign up to be on this show,” Cadence (Amber) tells nice-guy boyfriend Chris (Donnie Rock). And though he expresses his doubts about the whole deal (“Naked. With a stranger. Of the opposite sex. For a reality show. … It’s just insane that you or anyone else would want to put yourself in that position.”), ultimately he comes around.

“Thank you for supporting my special brand of crazy,” she says.

Once she’s on the show, Amber embraces the world director Brandt creates for the cast. On one hand, Mia Li plays the show’s demanding producer—but her two crew mates (Small Hands and Logan Long) know her soft spot (“your vagina!”) and are willing to share. On the other side of the camera are Amber and her partner in the adventure, a survival skills instructor named Jackson (played by Derrick Pierce). Their connection is immediate and intense, and together they make it through an ordeal that involves bad water, a bug-based diet and bundling together for warmth (and more) at night.

The real story unfolds after the show wraps, when Cadence longs to reconnect with Jackson even while she’s still involved with Chris. And though she thinks Jackson’s unattached, he has his own complicated home life: He shares girlfriend Roxanne (Chanel Preston) with her other lover, Zane (Ryan Driller). They’re all perfectly happy about the situation, which we see in the movie’s second boy/boy/girl threesome.

Ultimately, Naked ends with a cliffhanger—one that many fans will want to see resolved with a sequel. Hopefully, the powers that be at Adam & Eve will be curious too!
