Like its Kubrickian namesake, Legs Wide Open is a disquieting look at a disintegrating marriage. Nick East is a shrink, treating lubricious vixen Tina Tyler and saddled with vanilla wife McKayla. When, at the point of orgasm, he yelps out Tyler's name, McKayla takes umbrage, and she is soon frequenting sleazy bars where couples have sex on the dance floor (Great visual gag: A guy walks up and hands the girl a C-note and the guy a $1 bill. And asks the guy if he has change.), and blowing Steve Austin in the back room while East watches. After an encounter with a hooker in his car, East goes back to the bar and cavorts with the barmaid and a patron in another back room - and finds that his wife has been watching all the time. Six sex scenes in all.
Real location exteriors add to the reality and moments of surreal humor - East tells a barmaid bring him anything, he doesn't care, and she pisses in a beer glass and charges him $10 for it - make the dramatic parts all the more effective. Frank Bukkwyd is particularly effective in a pre-nom non-sex supporting role as a fellow shrink of East's.
