There's a long, rusty chain of pain linking alcoholic rockstar Mark Davis to struggling singer/girlfriend Heather Hunter. No longer the flavor of the month in his profession, Davis takes his frustrations out by cheating on her, plus he's an evil jerk and won't even help her get a toehold in the music industry. Hunter puts up with his mistreatment and earns money singing backup in cat food commercials, but when she catches him in bed with studio receptionist Chloe (after a serviceable anal), she's fed up. Pragmatic producer Nick East comes to Hunter's rescue by making her a star. He does a pretty good job here; too bad he's made to utter lines like, "In this business, you're a shark. And if sharks don't swim forward, they die."
Davis get sober and celebrates the release of his new album with a threeway involving himself, Hunter and fellow singer Dee, whose stunning visage becomes even more appealing when it's coated with Davis' thick dick-cream. But the album tanks, Davis relapses, and it's East who ends up with Hunter, taking standout-scene honors with a hot, playful fuck. Hunter eventually becomes a star, and Davis is left alone with his bottle to watch her hit video on television. (Hunter's voice is as pretty as the rest of her, and while the video for her song is no Spike Jonze vehicle, it will doubtlessly appeal to the type of women the entire film is meant to please.)
