It takes balls of pure, unalloyed brass to hazard a rendition of Shakespeare with a cast of porn stars, but Stewart Canterbury pulls off a production which could nestle proudly beside community theater renditions of The Bard's work as performed by the best community theater troupes in any small American city. The production succeeds because Canterbury's cast renders its lines quite ably for the most part, and because an infectious sense of fun is allowed to permeate the proceedings, an element all too often absent from more pious stagings of Shakespeare. In addition, the sets and costuming here are evocative and generally quite rich.
Sexually, top honors go to Sydnee Steele, Nina Hartley (with Kyle Stone and Evan Stone) and Cheyenne Silver, all of whom shine throughout. The dewy eroticism native to the Shakespeare play upon which this production is based is present in plenty here, and the sex seems to flow from it effortlessly. A gem.
