What the pin-up calendar was to our high school lockers, the video calendar has become to our VCR-dominated society of today. This tape starts with an historical collage of Bunny calendars from 1958 to the present, before launching into a glitzy, high-speed world of video modeling. But be warned: it's difficult to take in a year's worth of gorgeous women in just over an hour's viewing time. The eroticism varies depending on the girl, the shoot, and the editing, so everyone can't expect everything here to be erotic.

For instance, Pia Reyes is a lovely person, but her segment is a sci-fi adventure dealing in androids and time travel with little emphasis on nudity. On the other hand, the Van Breeschooten Twins parade around in frills and lace showing off their copied bodies to the max. There's even a bathtub scene with some minor caressing by the two beauties.

Nudity is not as important in this tape, but rather the producers try to show off each of the girls true nature and beauty in personalized segments. Tawnni Cable and Ava Fabian are fun-loving brunettes who look great in or out of clothes, and their "Holly-weird" attitudes are showcased on fast-cut California settings. Emily Arth, on the other hand, is a classic beauty who once aspired to be a professional pianist. Her scenes include artsy nude shots atop a piano in the middle of the dessert, as well as hip-hoppin' rock-n-roll segments. Simone Eden is a contradiction unto herself: there's a naïve nature to her still shots, but she's pure sexy laying semi-nude in the back of an old T-bird or while dancing.

And of course there's the lovely Mrs. Hefner, Kimberly Conrad. Her scenes here are very reminiscent of her solo tape. And for her die-hard fans there's also a Playboyspecial edition magazine dedicated to the "Playmate for a Lifetime."

Perfectionists may be offended that the months represented by the girls here are not the months in which they appeared in their magazine layouts. And some of last year's centerfolds are missing altogether (where have you gone, Monique Noel?), while others from 1988 are included. And on a personal note, I'd like to know what Playboy spends on white feathers in one year.

As usual this Playboy/HBO Video venture features outstanding production values, and there's no denying the women are beautiful. Video stores should find this a consistent renter, and a decent sell-through item for collectors and fans. Priced at $29.95.
